Can’t Get Online, Can’t Get By Spotting it, supporting it, speaking up about it
Wednesday 14th October
More and more of everyday life now assumes internet access – and increasingly, a smartphone too. Nationally, only around 1 in 3 UK adults are considered “comfortably online,” and around 34 million people are online but still face real barriers. This session looks at who in your life might be struggling to keep up – a partner, neighbour, friend or relative – how to help them well without taking over, and how residents can make their voice heard on digital exclusion locally.
This isn’t a beginners’ session. It’s aimed at people who are already reasonably confident with technology, and asks them to use that confidence to support others. The talk is followed by tea and coffee, and an informal table discussion where attendees are invited to share their own experiences, or those of someone they know – stories which may, with permission, help inform local conversations about digital inclusion.
